- Man Utd’s Bruno Fernandes reached 20 Premier League assists
- Roy Keane hit out at the reaction to the feat
- Irishman’s argument doesn’t add up
Roy Keane has given a scathing attack on Bruno Fernandes’ assist record by downplaying the Manchester United captain’s achievement. The Irish pundit, supposedly a former Red Devils skipper, isn’t impressed with the feat.
Fernandes joined Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry with 20 assists in a single Premier League campaign last Sunday. He assisted Bryan Mbeumo for the winner in a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest.
The 31-year-old has enjoyed a sensational season and reaching such a historic accomplishment speaks volumes. But for Keane it means absolutely nothing.

“A circus act” – Keane on Fernandes’ assist record
Keane couldn’t help but fire digs at Fernandes’ achievement by suggesting it’s wrong for him to be thinking about chasing records. He said on The Overlap:
“What do you get for being level with De Bruyne and Henry? NOTHING. “What’s the priority when you play for (Man Utd)? The number one priority? Winning trophies.”
He added:
“He will not be winning trophies at United with that mindset from the players. They conceded two goals, and everyone’s getting giddy because he’s equalled a record for assists. “It’s mind-boggling. It’s a circus act.”
By now, it’s clear Keane is just running his anti-United agenda and can’t say anything positive about the club. Still obviously irked by the manner of his exit nearly 20 years ago, the only circus act is his bitter contempt for the club.
Keane’s ridiculous assessment isn’t fooling anyone
Fernandes wants to win trophies, he’s made that clear throughout the season. He told Wayne Rooney a month ago that his aim is to win the Premier League and the Champions League.
That doesn’t mean he and the club shouldn’t be celebrating his incredible campaign. Keane’s former teammate Cristiano Ronaldo won just two La Liga titles in nine seasons at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo still celebrated finishing as top scorer in the 2013/14 and 14/15 seasons despite Los Blancos missing out on the title to Barcelona. To make Keane’s argument look even more stupid, Henry claimed 20 assists in the 2002-03 season but it was United not Arsenal who won the title.
The Old Trafford faithful are getting sick of the sight and sound of Keane but he’s not the only one whose legendary legacy is being ruined by constant bickering. Gary Neville and Paul Scholes are also working their hardest to make fans forget about their iconic moments at the Theatre of Dreams.
