- Shea Lacey could leave Man Utd on loan
- English winger had interest in January
- A loan is the right idea for teenage prospect
Manchester United are reportedly considering sending Shea Lacey out on loan next season. The English winger is one for the future, and the club wants him to get more game time.
According to AcademyScoop on X, United haven’t ruled out sending Lacey out on loan but a decision won’t be made until late in the summer. He has already made three senior appearances this season.
The competition for places on Michael Carrick’s right wing means the 19-year-old might be handed limited opportunities next season. Bryan Mbeumo is currently the starter while Amad Diallo has rotated with the Cameroonian.

Man Utd consider Lacey loan
The report claims that approaches were made for Lacey in January but a calf injury meant he stayed put. He’s since returned to action with the U21’s but could be in the squad for Sunday’s encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Celtic had been keen on signing Lacey on a six-month deal earlier this year, while Marseille were also eyeing the Liverpool-born youngster. There’s no word on whether those clubs could come back in for the teenage prospect.
Lacey has starred at youth level, scoring 12 goals and providing five assists in 20 games for the U21’s. He has already impressed fans with his brief cameo appearances for the first team, including off the bench in a 2-2 draw against Burnley.
A perfect plan
Lacey needs assured game time at this stage of his career, and his next step should be a loan move. His current status sees him sitting just between the youth team and the senior squad.
It’s hard to ignore his clear talent and his profile, a tricky and pacey left-footed right winger who cuts inside and has a lethal shot on him. It’s no wonder the likes of Celtic and Marseille were interested in signing him on loan earlier this year.
United, if they do send him out on loan, must ensure he joins a club that will give him first-team opportunities. There’s no point in having him head out to a side where he is handed similar minutes to those he’d have received if staying at Old Trafford for the season.
Lacey might even put himself in the loan window if he’s afforded a chance against Brighton this weekend. He’s one of three youngsters whom Carrick should be playing at the Amex Stadium.
