  • Fans not keen on Brazilian midfielder
  • Player ‘open’ to joining the Reds

Manchester United fans have responded to Fabrizio Romano’s update on Ederson and the club’s interest in the Atalanta midfielder. The Brazilian is one of many midfielders on the Red Devils’ shortlist.

Romano claims that United remain interested in Ederson and that new contacts are set to take place in the coming days. While other options are being considered, he is “open to joining” the club.

Atalanta are said to want around €45m for the 26-year-old, who has a year left on his contract. He has been a mainstay in Raffaele Palladino’s side this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 42 games across competitions.

Ederson ‘open’ to Man Utd

United are conducting a midfield overhaul ahead of Casemiro’s departure at the end of the season. At least two new midfielders are expected to arrive at the club.

Ederson seems the most likely arrival, and there is even talk of the club having scouted him for over a year. He is primarily a central midfielder, though he can also play as an anchor in the middle of the park.

The Brazilian was a key man in Atalanta’s Europa League triumph in 2023-24. He has been with the Italian outfit since the summer of 2022 but looks set to be on the move with a year left on his contract.

Man Utd fans ‘worry’

United fans aren’t too impressed with the idea of Ederson joining. Not least because of his supposed asking price.

One supporter feels it could end up being a similar signing to that of Manuel Ugarte:

“Literally screams of going for Ugarte when we didn’t want to pay for Joao Neves. As a Casemiro replacement, absolutely not. As a second midfielder, risky. As the third midfielder, decent.”

Another fan responded: “They told me not to worry, i am starting to worry.”

One supporter echoed this: “I am starting to worry. We’ve made these same mistakes before.”

Another pointed out the list of names on United’s radar: “Would be underwhelming with the options available.”

One said: “This is embarrassing from the board why are they trying to replace Ugarte with Ugarte???”

Another joked: “Place a strict ban on any transfer from the Serie A and I swear United win the league in 3 years.”

United do have a strong relationship with Atalanta having done business with the Italians in past years. The club signed Ramus Hojlund for £72m in 2023 and Amad Diallo for £37m in 2020.
