- Manchester United must sort Marcus Rashford saga
- Barcelona still hesistant on deal
- Could affect transfer strategy for club this summer
Manchester United and FC Barcelona have been locked in negotiations over Marcus Rashford for the last few months.
The forward was loaned out to the La Liga side by then-head coach Ruben Amorim, as part of the exiled ‘bomb squad’. Rashford has found a new lease of life abroad, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions.
As the summer window approaches, there is yet to be clarity on the situation around the transfer and whether it will go ahead in the next few weeks.

Rashford Saga is Ongoing
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the “feeling” is that Marcus Rashford’s future will be “resolved” before the World Cup begins.
On his YouTube channel, the journalist said that “the Rashford deal is still ongoing”. Barcelona are still keen to “find better conditions” in the deal. This is currently fixed at €30m as part of an option to buy clause.
One of the major factors remains that Rashford is “very keen” on staying in Spain, having won the La Liga title with his loan club this campaign. He has impressed his teammates and manager Hansi Flick, who is keen on keeping him in Catalonia.
As a reward, the 28-year-old has made Thomas Tuchel’s 2026 World Cup squad, beating the likes of Cole Palmer and Phil Foden to a spot. Therefore, the player will be keen to sort his future out before the tournament begins on 11 June. England will first play against Croatia on 17 June.

Transfer Must be Resolved Before World Cup
The situation has looked the same for the last two months, with very little progress on either side to move the deal. Barcelona want to bargain for an even lower price for the England international. United believes the price is already fair and does not want to be flexible.
Allowing this negotiation to drag into pre-season presents an unnecessary distraction for Man United. As the squad prepares for life under Michael Carrick, a clean slate is needed for establishing new dynamics.
Carrying a high-profile transfer into July will risk the flow of the recruitment strategy by INEOS. Left wing is an area of concern in depth for the club heading into next season.
The two parties must come together and compromise somewhere. Other United may be left with a player who has vocally made it clear that he would much rather be in Spain.
