- Lisandro Martinez named in Argentina’s World Cup squad
- Man Utd defender won the trophy in 2022
- Lionel Messi might be playing final international tournament
Lisandro Martinez will be representing the defending world champions when Argentina take to the World Cup this summer. The Manchester United defender has been included in Lionel Scaloni’s squad for the tournament in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 28-year-old lifted the famous trophy back in the winter of 2022 in Qatar. He didn’t play in the final but he made five appearances for La Abiceleste.
Martinez and the rest of the Argentina squad are eager to ensure Lionel Messi ends his international career with a second World Cup winners’ medal. It is heavily anticipated that the eight-time Ballon d’Or winner will bow out of international football after the tournament.

Lisandro Martinez’s World Cup
Argentina start their defence of the World Cup against Algeria in Group J. They then take on Ralf Rangnick’s Austria on June 22nd before meeting Jordan on June 28th.
This should be a relatively easy group for Martinez’s country to win, advancing to the knockout rounds of the competition. The biggest test will come against the Austrians who are a tricky side.
