- Man Utd want to sign Elliot Anderson
- Man City lead race for Nottingham Forest star
- Fabrizio Romano gives an update
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Manchester City might not be prepared to meet Nottingham Forest’s asking price for Elliot Anderson. The English midfielder is wanted by both Manchester clubs but seems to prefer a move to the Etihad.
Anderson is in high demand amid an excellent campaign at the City Ground. The 23-year-old has featured 37 times in the league, posting four goals and as many assists.
Manchester United are eyeing the England international as a potential Casemiro replacement. The Brazilian departs Old Trafford in June and finding a new holding midfielder is a priority for the club.

Romano on Anderson transfer saga
Romano delved into the situation regarding Anderson and explained City’s stance on the Englishman. He said on his YouTube channel:
“Man City are prepared to pay big money to Elliot Anderson but then we have to see if they can give what Nottingham Forest want in terms of price. Manchester United also really like the player, really appreciate the player, and internally is considered as one of the best options”
Romano revealed that City have alternatives in mind, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez:
“Man City have been leading the race for months and pushing on the player side. They then have other names in the list in case this deal doesn’t happen. Some players like Enzo Fernandez have been mentioned internally.”
If City were unable to come to an agreement with Forest over a fee for Anderson that could work in United’s favour. Should the Citizens instead swoop for Fernandez, that might leave the door open for the Reds to try and swoop for the English midfielder.
The issue for both clubs is the fee and reports suggest he is valued at over £100m. But if City look to make their big-money midfield signing early, it might mean Anderson becomes a possibility as the summer progresses.
Alternative viewed “too expensive”
United also have alternatives on their radar should they fail to beat City to Anderson. One of those is Sandro Tonali, who is also on their cross-city rivals’ shortlist.
Romano confirmed that the club’s interest in Tonali is real, but the Italian’s price is an issue. He is viewed as “too expensive” at the moment.
Tonali looks to be eyeing a move this summer after Newcastle United failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League. He possesses a more defensive profile than Anderson and, at 26, is more experienced than the Forest star.
