  • He must improve next season

The curtain has closed on, barring a few particularly painful lows, a largely positive season for Manchester United. Following last term’s 15th-place Premier League finish and Europa League final heartbreak, it has been 10 months of development and improvement.

The same, unfortunately, cannot be said for Amad, who has suffered a difficult club season on either side of an inspired Africa Cup of Nations. After a career-best 2024/25 campaign individually, scoring 11 goals and providing eight assists, the Ivorian only registered two goals and three assists this time around.

However, Amad ended the season in fine fashion on Sunday, contributing to United’s 3-0 win against Brighton and Hove Albion by assisting the visitors’ spectacular second goal. And, while reflecting on a troublesome campaign, the 23-year-old is already looking ahead to beyond the summer.

Amad addresses Man Utd fans

After full-time at the Amex Stadium on Sunday, Amad penned a lengthy message on Instagram. He wrote:

“Another season comes to an end, amazing to be part of this great club. Looking forward to being back where we belong and competing for all trophies next season. The ups and downs are part of our profession, but I will keep learning and working hard to give my best for this football club.

“@brunofernandes8, congratulations on the 21 assists. You are a source of inspiration for all of us. Once again, thank you to the most amazing fans in the world for your constant support throughout this season. Your support pushes us to always fight for this club. See you next season Reds. AD16”

Is Amad’s spot safe?

After his impressive exploits last season, there was a confidence that Amad was going to take the next step this term. That was based on the thesis that he would be operating in a significantly better team and attack than in the shameful previous season.

While that proved true, Amad has regressed, with Bruno Fernandes and United’s three new attacking arrivals predominantly sharing the scoring and creating burden.

It is primed to be a busy summer for the Red Devils, but their No. 16 should be safe. Carrick will view his options on the right wing – Bryan Mbeumo, Amad and now Shea Lacey – as sufficient enough to focus on more pressing areas, including the left flank.

That said, Amad will know that under United’s more ambitious INEOS-led regime, mediocrity cannot continue into a second year. Lacey’s active emergence into the senior picture may serve as added motivation.
