- Barcelona yet to decide on Man Utd’s Marcus Rashford
- Catalans now eyeing Anthony Gordon
- Rashford is the better option
Barcelona continue to leave Marcus Rashford in the dark over his future, amid showing interest in Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon. The Catalans are still reluctant to pay Manchester United the £26m buy option in Rashford’s loan agreement.
Rashford has spent the season on loan at Camp Nou and performed brilliantly. He played an important role in their La Liga title triumph and is eager to make a permanent switch.
The 28-year-old appeared 49 times across competitions, posting 14 goals and as many assists. Hansi Flick used his versatility, playing him out on the left and in a centre-forward role.
Barcelona want Gordon over Rashford?
Rashford’s future is uncertain despite his clear desire to join Barca permanently. The Spanish heavyweights are now eyeing his England teammate Gordon.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blaugrana have held direct talks with Newcastle for the 25-year-old. They are one of several clubs looking to sign the Magpies star, with Bayern Munich and other Premier League sides also showing interest.
Gordon’s days at St James’ Park look numbered, and he’s pushing for a departure. Eddie Howe’s side failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League, and as a result, several high-profile stars are expected to leave.
Barca’s pursuit of Gordon could come at a cost for Rashford, who is waiting for the club to give United the green light over his buy option. He will feel he’s done more than enough to warrant a permanent transfer and most English fans would be advising the Spaniards to prioritise him.
Bonkers Barca
Most Barca fans seem to agree with that stance, as one of their club channels, Barca Universal, has questioned the prioritisation of Gordon. They asked their supporters: “True or False: €70m for Anthony Gordon is ludicrous when Marcus Rashford is available for €30m.”
Gordon has performed well at Newcastle and enjoyed a decent season. He managed 17 goals and five assists in 46 games across competitions.
While the former Everton forward is younger, he doesn’t possess the qualities Rashford does. On his day, the United loanee is world-class and probably starts over Gordon for England at this summer’s World Cup.
