- Michael Carrick praised by Omar Berrada
- Financial results show operating profit for Reds
- Champions League qualification further boosts revenue
Manchester United‘s third-quarter fiscal results were revealed on Wednesday (27 May), and it’s looking financially good for the club.
The Reds reported an operating profit of £37.7m, a significant improvement over the third-quarter results for 2025. That was reported as a £3.2m operating loss. This meant that the club were merely existing as a public company that was losing money on a daily basis.
As well as reductions in headcount and streamlining roles, INEOS have also enjoyed the on-field benefits of becoming a third-placed team in the Premier League. It was a far-fetched dream just four months ago. There is one man to thank mainly, who is currently the head coach of Manchester United.

“Excellent” Carrick Has Delighted Fans and Board
The Daily Mirror have reported that the club’s chief executive officer Omar Berrada released a reactionary statement to the latest financial results. He said: “We feel very positive about the club’s progress this season and the continuing positive impact of our business transformation initiatives.
“Finishing third in the Premier League and securing qualification to next season’s UEFA Champions League is testament to our men’s team’s improved form on the pitch.”
United were able to secure Champions League qualification with three games to go. It was done in fashionable style at Old Trafford at the start of May, in a thrilling 3-2 win against Liverpool.
Berrada also took the time to praise the current head coach, who has been rewarded with a two-year contract. The chief executive said: “Michael Carrick has done an excellent job in the 17 games he has overseen and we are delighted that he will continue as Head Coach.”

Champions League Revenue Adds to Ongoing Trend
For Berrada and INEOS, they can take some due credit from the internal decision-making process that rescued United’s season. The leadership team in control of football operations signed off on Carrick’s interim appointment in January. However, at one point, a return for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looked more likely.
Berrada’s recent assessments of Carrick highlight a manager who brings patience, stability, and a return to the United identity lost under Ruben Amorim. By overachieving to secure a third-place finish, Carrick helped create extra financial revenue that won’t quite be reflected in this year’s accounts. However, INEOS and the Glazers will feel their pockets getting heavier in 2027 when those financial reports are published.
This statement further reinforces that INEOS believe Carrick is the man to lead United back to their perch. Whether ‘Carrick Ball’ will be a success in another matter. Whatever happens, the accounts will reflect on the 2026 that the 44-year-old has had so far in trying to bring the glory days back in the most Carrick way possible.
