- Marcus Rashford’s Man Utd exit in limbo
- Barcelona readying low offer
- The Red Devils must refuse
Barcelona are reportedly preparing to make a bid to Manchester United for Marcus Rashford as they look to avoid paying the £26m buy option in the player’s loan deal. The English forward has spent the season on loan at Camp Nou.
According to Mail Sport, Barca are planning to offer around £13m for Rashford. That decision comes amid the Catalans’ signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for £69m.
Rashford impressed during his season-long loan with the Blaugrana, helping Hansi Flick’s side win the La Liga title. He left United after falling out with former head coach Ruben Amorim.
Barcelona ready Rashford offer
Barca’s potential bid for Rashford is just over half of the agreed buy option. The Spaniards have until June 15th to trigger that clause but they seem keen to try and sign the forward for less money.
Rashford got his career back on track in Catalonia, scoring 14 goals and providing as many assists in 49 games across competitions. When the buy clause was revealed at the start of his loan, many felt it was ridiculously cheap for a player of the 28-year-old’s calibre.
The English attacker has shown his worth during his time with Barca. The ending of his Old Trafford career left much to be admired but his overall spell is one that makes a £13m fee insulting.
Embarrassingly low bid
Rashford will have two years left on his contract this summer, so Barca’s attempts to secure him for a cut-price fee are nonsensical. It’s up to the England international to take a pay cut if he doesn’t fit into the La Liga giants’ financial capabilities.
United must insist on the agreed buy option price, and anything less should be turned down. Even with the Red Devils clearly ready to move on from their academy talent, he is worth much more than even £26m.
The report claims that if INEOS refuse to accept Barca’s offer, he won’t be joining the club. He can’t blame his parent club who already agreed on a low fee as part of his loan switch.
Rashford should direct his frustrations at the Catalan club, who have prioritised Gordon over him. It’s a shame for the player, given his contributions this season and his obvious desire to make a permanent move to Camp Nou.
