- Man Utd want to sign Aurelien Tchouameni
- Christopher Vivell proving crucial
- Reds’ director of recruitment is finding success
Manchester United are dreaming of bringing Aurelien Tchouameni to Old Trafford and that’s down to one man. The Real Madrid midfielder is at the top of the club’s transfer wishlist.
According to Ben Jacobs, while speaking to The United Stand, United’s interest in Tchouameni is driven by Christopher Vivell. The club’s director of recruitment is proving to be an excellent appointment and he has a clear vision for building a squad that can challenge.
Vivell pushed for Benjamin Sesko to be signed instead of Liam Delap last summer, and the decision paid off. The Slovenian striker arrived from RB Leipzig for an initial £66.2m, and he’s bagged 11 goals in 30 league games.
Vivell wants Tchouameni
Vivell also made sure United swooped for Senne Lammens despite Ruben Amorim preferring Emiliano Martinez. The Belgian goalkeeper has been excellent and proven to be a bargain at just £18m from Royal Antwerp.
The German now has his sights set on Tchouameni and is trying to bring the Madrid man to the Theatre of Dreams. A deal isn’t easy because there’s been no indication that the player is willing to leave the Santiago Bernabeu.
Reports suggest that United will move for the French midfielder if they receive the green light from the La Liga giants. He had been on the club’s radar before joining Los Blancos from AS Monaco for £85m back in July 2022.
Tchouameni is one of Europe’s most highly rated holding midfielders and would be an outstanding replacement for Casemiro. The Brazilian will be a huge miss for the Reds given his dominance in the middle of the park.
Vivell will pull off a masterstroke if he manages to sign the 26-year-old this summer. Of all the options to partner Kobbie Mainoo in midfield, the Madrid star is the most exciting.
Tchouameni has made 49 appearances across competitions this season, posting two goals and as many assists. He is at his peak and could transform Michael Carrick’s side, who are bidding to enter the title picture and compete in the UEFA Champions League.
Why Vivell is so important
Vivell arrived at United in 2024, initially signing a short-term deal. The club then appointed him as director of recruitment, using his experience from his tenure at Leipzig, where he helped build the German outfit into one of the Bundesliga’s strongest clubs.
The 39-year-old works closely with sporting director Jason Wilcox and his knowledge of scouting outside of the Premier League is a massive strength. It’s probably why he got his way in convincing those above him to swoop for Sesko and Lammens over Delap and Martinez.
