- Man Utd could swoop for a Real Madrid star
- The Red Devils hold an interest in Newcastle United defender
- Marcus Rashford replacement lined up
This summer is a big one for Manchester United as they look to ensure Michael Carrick has a squad that can compete next season. The club returns to the UEFA Champions League, and with that comes the need for strength in depth.
United’s summer transfer window isn’t just about incomings as they bid farewell to Casemiro. The Brazilian midfielder’s departure needs to be addressed, and INEOS are focusing on a midfield rebuild.

Man Utd dream 2025-26 squad if rumours are true
Goalkeepers: Senne Lammens, Radek Vitek, Tom Heaton
There is little to no chance of any goalkeeper displacing Senne Lammens between the sticks. The Belgian shot-stopper has been outstanding since arriving from Royal Antwerp for just £18m last summer.
Defenders – Diogo Dalot, Noussair Mazraoui, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez, Leny Yoro, Ayden Heaven, Lewis Hall
There is little to no chance of any goalkeeper displacing Senne Lammens between the sticks. The Belgian shot-stopper has been outstanding since arriving from Royal Antwerp for just £18m last summer.
It’s in defence where there might be changes, although just one. Diogo Dalot has enjoyed a fine season while Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez appear to be Carrick’s first-choice centre-back partnership.
Luke Shaw is the only one who might be looking over his shoulder come next season. United are eyeing Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall, and if the club were to sign the Englishman, it could mean a new starter at left-back.
Midfielders – Kobbie Mainoo, Aurelien Tchouameni, Bruno Fernandes, Mateus Fernandes, Ederson, Mason Mount
In midfield, there is expected to be plenty of transfer activity, including replacing Casemiro. A move for Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson now looks to be off the cards due to his desire to join Manchester City.
Aurelien Tchouameni is the dream signing for INEOS and the Frenchman can’t be ruled out. He has yet to downplay links with the Reds, and the club are thought to be ready to swoop if Real Madrid allow him to leave.
If Tchouameni, who joined Madrid for £85m, were to arrive, he could partner Mainoo in midfield, but he wouldn’t be the only midfield arrival. United have reportedly agreed on a £38m deal with Atalanta for Ederson and are keen on West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes.
Bruno Fernandes would continue in his preferred number 10 role which saw him break the Premier League assist record in a single campaign. Adding three midfielders to the squad could help him take the Red Devils back to challenging for major honours.
Wingers – Rafael Leao, Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha, Amad Diallo, Patrick Dorgu, Shea Lacey
A new left winger appears to be on United’s wishlist and the club hold an interest in AC Milan’s Rafael Leao. They reportedly want to replace Marcus Rashford with the versatile Portuguese attacker.
Leao has confirmed that he is leaving Milan this summer and that only aids the Reds in a potential pursuit. He could be a superb addition to Carrick’s winger options.
Strikers – Benjamin Sesko, Jean-Philippe Mateta
Benjamin Sesko has burst into life under Carrick and lived up to expectations with impressive form. But the Slovenian striker needs a better backup option amid Joshua Zirkzee’s struggles.
A move for Jean-Philippe Mateta makes sense given the Crystal Palace frontman is expected to be sold this summer. The Frenchman was on United’s radar in January and could be available for around £30m.
