Manchester United are reportedly ready to battle Premier League rivals Chelsea in the race to sign Real Betis’ teenage defensive sensation, Jean Emmanuel N’Goran.

The 19-year-old Ivorian centre-back has experienced a meteoric rise over the last year, establishing himself as one of the most exciting young defenders in Spanish football.

According to reports from Spain, both United and Chelsea have already contacted the player’s representatives to signal their firm interest and learn more about his situation.

Man Utd battle Chelsea for N’Goran

While Chelsea are well known for targeting top global youth talent, United are determined to beat the West Londoners to his signature. The club’s scouts have been heavily impressed by N’Goran’s rapid progression.

The powerful young defender, hailed as “stunning,” joined Betis’ youth setup in early 2025 from Ghanaian side Young African Promises. Since then, his trajectory has been stunning.

N’Goran starred in the UEFA Youth League, scoring a memorable volley against Tottenham Hotspur, and won the Copa del Rey Juvenil before quickly cementing his place in the Betis Deportivo reserve squad.

His dominant physical presence, combined with composure on the ball, has made Europe’s elite take notice.

Asking price

Securing N’Goran’s services will not be straightforward or cheap. Real Betis are fully aware of the jewel they have on their hands. To protect his value, the La Liga side tied the Ivorian down to a long-term contract extension running until June 2030.

Reports suggest that it would take an offer of around €30 million (approx. £26 million) to tempt the Seville-based club into parting with their prized asset.

United have had success targeting youth since INEOS took over the club’s sporting operations. Ayden Heaven and Leny Yoro are two youngsters who are already earning regular game time in defence.
