Manchester United find themselves in a tense transfer stalemate regarding the future of Marcus Rashford. The player is still in the dark regarding a permanent switch to Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window.

According to a report from The Mirror‘s John Cross, his chances of staying at Barcelona are in doubt. While the 28-year-old forward is eager to remain at the Nou Camp under the guidance of Hansi Flick, the Catalans’ financial manoeuvring has caused serious frustration at Old Trafford.

Following Barca’s recent signing of Anthony Gordon, they are now attempting to renegotiate terms or simply extend Rashford’s initial loan spell. United, however, are having none of it.

Having already rejected lower offers from Barca, the Red Devils are ready to wash their hands of the situation and sell him elsewhere for a fee of around £24 million.

Rashford’s Premier League options

United are reportedly willing to do business with other parties to secure their £24 million asking price, but the player himself holds plenty of cards. Both Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have the financial muscle to pull off the deal, yet Rashford is currently refusing to consider either destination.

Rashford does have two other Premier League giants eyeing him. While Arsenal and Chelsea present high-profile projects that could appeal to a player of his calibre, United are reluctant to sell to their traditional domestic rivals.

Giving a direct competitor a proven top-flight forward for a cut-price £24 million is not desired. Even we fans would shudder at the thought of seeing the Carrington academy star play his football at the Emirates or Stamford Bridge.

A frustrating situation

United want £24 million and a permanent resolution, while Barcelona want a discount or another loan. Rashford wants to stay at Camp Nou, but if that falls through, he’ll undoubtedly be in high demand.

Rashford enjoyed a fine season with the Catalans, posting 14 goals and as many assists in 49 games across competitions. It’s surprising to see the Spaniards prioritise Gordon for £69m over an unbelievably reasonable fee for the Red Devils loanee.

The Englishman will have a year left on his contract with the Reds this summer. It does seem as though his time at Old Trafford is over, regardless of Barca refusing to pay up.
