- Man Utd have £200m transfer budget
- Club need a Casemiro replacement
- Two Newcastle stars are targets
Manchester United are reportedly handing Michael Carrick a £200m transfer budget to strengthen his squad ahead of next season. INEOS will continue their rebuild this summer.
According to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, there will also be money to spend from player sales. That includes the possibility of moving Marcus Rashford, Altay Bayindir, Manuel Ugarte, Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana.
United have been linked with plenty of players ahead of the transfer window opening on June 15th. They are closing in on the signing of Ederson from Atalanta in a reported £38m deal.
Man Utd must go for Tonali
United ideally make three midfield signings to deal with Casemiro’s exit, along with Ugarte likely being offloaded. Ederson cannot be the only midfielder who arrives at Old Trafford.
Elliot Anderson is the top target, but the Nottingham Forest star appears to prefer a move to Manchester City. That leaves the club in a difficult position, but there is another top Premier League midfielder on their shortlist.
United are reportedly showing an interest in Sandro Tonali and the Newcastle United star ticks plenty of boxes. The Italian is a complete and versatile midfielder whose playmaking is likened to Andrea Pirlo.
The only issue is that the Magpies are reportedly demanding £100m for the 26-year-old. That is a large price but unfortunately is where the midfield market is at following deals such as Chelsea spending over £100m on Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
If the Red Devils were to agree on that fee, they would break their transfer record. But Tonali has shown he is a world-class player on his day.
Swoop for Hall
United also need to think about strengthening their defence, particularly by offering Luke Shaw competition. The English left-back started and played every Premier League game this season.
Shaw stayed injury-free, but his Old Trafford career has been plagued by constant fitness issues. One injury to the 30-year-old could be disastrous.
The solution could well be swooping for Lewis Hall, who is one of the best full-backs in the top flight. The Newcastle defender enjoyed an excellent season, albeit coming off the boil in the latter stages.
Hall made 47 appearances across competitions, registering one goal and two assists. He was particularly impressive at St James’ Park in the Champions League when he kept Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal quiet.
Reports suggest the 21-year-old could cost around £70m which is a big fee. But United will eventually need to replace Shaw and the Newcastle youngster is a perfect choice.
