  • Harry Maguire linked with Man Utd exit
  • “Offered” to Inter Milan
  • Journalist refutes those claims

The summer transfer window is barely open, and the Manchester United rumour mill is already throwing up shocking scenarios. The latest story from Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport involves Harry Maguire.

They claim that despite recently putting pen to paper on a new contract at Old Trafford, he has been “offered” to Serie A champions Inter Milan. He penned a new deal just last month, committing a further year to the Red Devils.

Maguire has enjoyed a superb season and been a rock at the heart of central defence. He was unfortunate to miss out on a place in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.

Harry’s going nowhere

Any talk of an immediate exit for the veteran centre-back can be firmly shut down. Daily Mail journalist Nathan Salt has refuted rumours in Italy over a potential switch to the San Siro.

Salt wrote in response to the report on X: “Harry Maguire isn’t leaving Manchester United, just to clear that up.”

The rumour was bizarre from the moment it surfaced. Maguire didn’t just sign a new contract; he celebrated it with extensive media promotion and an interview.

Since Michael Carrick took the reins at Old Trafford, Maguire has been one of his most important players. He continues to be a leader in the dressing room and a highly reliable presence on the pitch.

United sporting director Jason Wilcox recently went on record to praise the defender’s character, stating:

“Harry represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United. He is the ultimate professional who brings invaluable experience and leadership to our young, ambitious squad.”

While Tuchel left Maguire out of the England squad for the upcoming World Cup, the silver lining for United is that the defender will get a full summer of rest. He will be completely fresh and ready to hit the ground running for pre-season training.

Maguire is crucial for Carrick

The report seemed to just use United’s name to gain traction. It’s claimed that Inter are looking elsewhere anyway, with their sights set on Udinese’s Oumar Solet.

Maguire has been with the club since August 2019, when he arrived from Leicester City in an £80m deal. He remains the world’s most expensive defender, but that tag is no longer brought up because he is performing extremely well and silencing his critics.

Carrick will want the experienced centre-back to be in top-notch condition ahead of next season. Missing the World Cup will only benefit United.
