  • Man Utd face Brighton today (May 24th)
  • Michael Carrick makes three changes
  • Patrick Dorgu handed start

Michael Carrick has named Patrick Dorgu in Manchester United‘s starting lineup for today’s encounter with Brighton & Hove Albion on the final day of the Premier League season. The Danish winger had been a starter at the beginning of Carrick’s interim reign.

Dorgu flourished in two starts, bagging two goals in wins over Manchester City (2-0) and Arsenal (3-2). The 21-year-old, unfortunately, suffered a hamstring injury in the victory at the Emirates and spent four months on the sidelines.

A return to action came off the bench in a 3-2 win against Liverpool at the start of the month. He’s yet to get back to his best, and today is the perfect opportunity to remind everyone of his abilities.

Dorgu’s chance to shine

Dorgu started the season as a wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s system before operating as a winger on several occasions under the Portuguese coach. That included in a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in which he played as a left winger and scored the winning goal.

Fans started to take to the Dane, and he earned the nickname “Ballon d’Orgu” due to his standout performances. He seemed ideal for Carrick on the basis of his outings in wins over City and Arsenal.

The hamstring injury derailed his progress, and as a result, Matheus Cunha stepped up and made the left-wing berth his own. The Brazilian attacker’s fine form means Dorgu finds himself playing backup and now needs to make the most of the opportunities he’s handed, including today.

Man Utd XI vs Brighton

Dorgu is one of three changes Carrick has made to the team that beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 last weekend. He replaces Cunha who drops to the bench to rest ahead of the World Cup with Brazil.

Casemiro has played his last game for the club and he doesn’t make the matchday squad. Mason Mount is therefore given the nod to partner Kobbie Mainoo in midfield.7

The other change sees Noussair Mazraoui start at right-back with Diogo Dalot not included in the squad. All eyes will be on Bruno Fernandes as he looks to break the record for the most assists in a single Premier League campaign.

United have already sealed their place in next season’s UEFA Champions League with a third-placed finish. But Carrick will want his side to finish the campaign with a victory heading into the summer.
