- Man Utd beat Brighton 3-0
- Mason Mount impresses
- Fans applaud the English midfielder
Manchester United fans have hailed Mason Mount following the English midfielder’s performance in a 3-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion. The Reds ran riot at the Amex with a huge victory against one of their bogey teams.
Patrick Dorgu gave United the lead with a header following Bruno Fernandes’ corner in the 32nd minute. The Portuguese playmaker broke the record for assists in a single Premier League campaign.
The visitors doubled their lead in the 43rd minute through Bryan Mbeumo who finished off a fine move. Mount played a key role, playing a neat one-two with Amad Diallo who set the Cameroonian up.
Fernandes bagged a goal of his own in three minutes into the second half. He sent a stunning strike past Bart Verbruggen as United cruised to victory on the south coast.
Mount superb in Man Utd 3-0 Brighton
Mount has come under criticism throughout his United spell but when he performs as he did today he proves why he can be a real asset for the Reds. He enjoyed an excellent outing, making six defensive contributions and won seven of eight ground duels.
The 27-year-old started alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the middle of the park and was his side’s engine room. His energy and influence on the game didn’t go unnoticed, and supporters are hopeful that, should he stay injury-free, he can kick on.
Mount joined United from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for £55m. He’s endured an injury-ridden Old Trafford career thus far but today’s performance may well have ensured he isn’t put in the shop window this summer.
“Can’t deny his quality” – Fans on Mount
Mount has struggled to get fans on side during his recurring injury troubles, but his display today has gone down extremely well with supporters. They point out that the only problem he has is his fitness, since when he plays, he often performs well.
That was the verdict of one fan who wrote: “I can’t lie, Mount is so important.”
Another added: “Mason Mount has played really well in the centre of midfield alongside Mainoo. I don’t know exactly where he fits in, but Mason is such a good player, just needs to stay fit.”
One wrote: “Said it multiple times now, but a lot still don’t seem to realise it. When Mount gets consistent minutes, there’s no question about his quality. The problem is his relentlessly poor injury record, which kills his match rhythm.”
Another added: “I said a long time ago Mainoo could be the deepest with Mount. Because Mount can run for days. Mainoo sometimes does lose his concentration in the 6 but the more he plays the better he will become in it.”
One said: “I don’t even know what my take is on Mason Mount. Of course he’s been really unlucky with injuries, which has made him very unreliable, but you can’t deny his quality. He’s a top-class player who can play as an 8, 10, 7, 11, or false 9.”
Mount still has two years left on his contract, and he’ll be hoping to be part of a United side that battles in the UEFA Champions League next season. With a midfield overhaul on the horizon, it seems he’ll be one of the current crop who remain at the club.
