- Casemiro says goodbye to Manchester United fans
- His final words at Old Trafford
- United beat Nottingham Forest 3-2
Casemiro’s Manchester United career may have lasted just four years, but the Brazilian carved out a lifetime of memories across his time at Old Trafford.
It was not always smooth sailing. During large stretches of his second and third seasons, Casemiro looked like a shadow of the midfielder who once dominated Europe with Real Madrid. But this season, something changed.
The Brazilian rediscovered the aggression, composure, and authority that first made United fans fall in love with him, and across the final months of the campaign, Old Trafford once again watched the version of Casemiro they thought had disappeared.
Many supporters desperately wanted one more year. The chants echoed around Old Trafford for weeks, booming from all four stands as over 70,000 fans pleaded for him to stay.
Casemiro’s farewell message
Speaking to MUTV following United’s 3-2 win, which secured third place in the Premier League, Casemiro kept his farewell short and emotional. He said:
“Thank you very much. Thank you to the players and thank you to the staff. The best thing at this club is you, fans. It’s you. Thank you.”
When the substitutes board lifted in the 79th minute, Old Trafford instantly rose to its feet. Casemiro slowly walked towards the touchline, visibly emotional as he absorbed the atmosphere one final time.
The Brazilian looked close to tears and every with every step, every clap from the stands rang louder. For four years, Old Trafford had become his home, and now he walked away from it for the final time.
Before taking his place on the bench, Casemiro made his way towards Michael Carrick, embracing the interim head coach who helped restore him during the closing stretch of the season.
Then, with the crowd still applauding, he sat down quietly and watched the final moments drift away. He watched United play out one of the most entertaining games of their campaign.
Carrick’s men beat Nottingham Forest 3-2 on the day courtesy of goals from Luke Shawn, Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo. Casemiro played an important role in midfield alongside Kobbie Mainoo.
Ideally, he faced his heir, with Elliot Anderson still a top target for INEOS. The English midfielder put in a phenomenal display, making two assists for the visitors.
Casemiro still has one more game to play as a United player and that comes against Brighton & Hove Albion next Sunday (May 24th).
