- Man Utd took the lead against Nottingham Forest
- Luke Shaw scored first goal of the season
- Gary Neville impressed
Gary Neville pointed out how long Luke Shaw had gone without scoring after the left-back netted the opener in Manchester United‘s encounter with Nottingham Forest. The Reds took the lead in the first half at Old Trafford.
Shaw produced an excellent finish in the fifth minute to put his side one-nil ahead. He drilled the ball past Mats Selz and into the bottom corner.
The 30-year-old seemed to joke around with his teammates during his celebration. His strike means he’s registered his first goal of the season with just one game remaining.

Gary Neville on ‘perfect’ Shaw strike
Neville reacted to Shaw’s goal on commentary and he touched on the reaction from his teammates. He said on Sky Sports:
“It’s a rarity, a Shaw goal, and it’s a good one too. His team-mates are joking with him, saying ‘what are you doing up there?'”
The former United captain lavished praise on the strike:
“I don’t know what the four Forest players are doing. I think they think Shaw is going to hit it first time, but he pulls it down and has a bit of space. It’s a real sweet perfect contact through Milenkovic’s legs.“
Shaw has been a mainstay in the United team this season and started every single Premier League game. Today he made his 324th game as a Red Devil since arriving from Southampton back in July 2014.
The veteran defender is set to be named in England’s provisional squad for the World Cup. He marked this with his first goal since January 2023.
Luke Shaw has stepped up
There were question marks over Shaw and his future last summer following a dissapointing past campaign. Constant injury issues and a poor display in a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham Hotspur led to groans from the Old Trafford faithful.
Shaw has bounced back and been a key man for Carrick and his team throughout the season. He has moved to his preferred left-back position after Ruben Amorim’s departure in January.
While there are reports linking United with Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly, there’s no reason Shaw shouldn’t be a starter next season. He has much-needed experience and is the club’s longest-serving player, who even spent a period as a teammate of Carrick’s.
