Manchester United goalscorer Patrick Dorgu has praised “brilliant” club captain Bruno Fernandes after the midfielder broke the record for the most assists in a single Premier League season.

The 31-year-old playmaker scored and assisted in a convincing 3-0 victory against Brighton & Hove Albion. It was a performance that took his total goal contributions to an incredible 30 for the 2025/26 campaign. His latest assist was a record breaker that took his league tally to 21. It surpassed the previous record of 20 jointly held by Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry.

“Brilliant” Fernandes Breaks Assist Record

The left winger was speaking to MUTV after the game, having been the direct beneficiary of Fernandes’ record-breaking assist to give United the lead after 33 minutes. A corner from the Portuguese international resulted in a rare header from the Dane, which gave United the lead at the Amex Stadium.

Speaking on the goal itself, Dorgu said: “We worked on that in training yesterday. I knew he [Bruno Fernandes] was going to put the ball there. Very happy with my goal and the victory. We can head off on vacation happy.”

The 21-year-old also had some kind words to say about his captain, adding that he is “a great player, a brilliant guy, it’s a pleasure to play with him.”

Dorgu has enjoyed a resurgence in form further up the field under both Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick this season. Unfortunately, he only featured in the opening two wins of Carrick’s tenure before a lengthy spell out on the sidelines through injury.

A return to the starting eleven has been carefully managed so far. Ending the season with a crucial goal from the start leaves fans excited about what he can replicate next term.

Fernandes Praise by Teammates is Becoming Common

This latest tribute highlights just how special of a player Fernandes has become at Old Trafford. It is clear that all his teammates love him and want the very best for him. If the squad can carry this harmonious chemistry and feel-good factor into next season, there could be some silverware waiting.

United obliterated Brighton when it truly counted in the south coast. It was at times, a dominant final-day display that caught many by surprise but provided the perfect springboard for the future.

The record being broken was capped off by Fernandes winning the Football Writers’ Men’s award, as well as being named the Premier League Player of the Season. Individual accolades have flowed this campaign, but a good transfer window could push this team into collective success in 2026/27.
